Arezzo

Arezzo has several fine museums, among them the Museo Archeologico located in an old monastery, the home of architect and artist Vasari and the Medieval and Modern Art Museum. Tuscan hill town are popular for the churches and their marvelous artwork : The Basilica San Francesco which was painted by Piero della Francesca in the 1400s, the Church of San Domenico and the Pieve di Santa Maria also known as the bell tower as an emblem for the city which has 40 windows. Don't miss the fun antique fair in Piazza Grande, held the first weekend of each month. For a less commercialized version of Siena's Palio horse race, attend Saraceno's Joust, a medieval tournament with lancers on horseback on the first Sunday of September. The Fortezza Medicea is looks like a giant fortress overlooking town open for tours, 65 km/40 mi southeast of Florence.
