AugsburgAugsburg was founded by Roman legions which is 30 mi/50 km northwest of Munich. The town name comes from the Emperor Augustus. To the west of Augsburg the city of Ulm, which features a Gothic church with one of the tallest spires in the world which is 525 ft/160 m high. The most interesting sights are the unusual Dom -cathedral; the Romisches Museum which is housed in a baroque church; St. Anne's Church, where Martin Luther took refuge; and the shining Renaissance Golden Room in the Rathaus-The Town Hall. Don't miss the Fuggerei, the world's first social housing project for the poor. Ulm is on the Danube and is a pleasant place to spend a few hours.
