Rovaniemi

The town is just a few miles south almost astride the Arctic Circle which is primarily a most beautiful and marvelous jumping-off point for other areas of Lapland. Designed by Alvar Aalto the graceful functionalist architecture in town contrasts beautifully with the scenic countryside. The main attraction there is Santa Claus. Finns as well other people tell their children that Santa lives just outside Rovaniemi and thousands trek there every year to visit Santa's workshop.
