Kota Bharu

Kota Bharu 200 mi/320 km north of Kuala Lumpur is near Thailand in the northeastern corner of peninsular Malaysia. The city has traditional Malaysian and Muslim culture exhibitions of top spinning, giant drums, kite making, shadow plays and silat, a martial art. The activities seem to be everywhere, but visitors often see them at the Kelantan State Cultural Center. Don't miss Sangkhat a cloth interwoven with gold and silver threads makes a nice souvenir and the central market, which has a dirt floor and skylight-dome ceiling.
