Mysore

Mysore 870 km southeast of Mumbai located in the hill country of southwestern India. Its a cooler region than the coastal cities, many of the maharajahs chose to live here. The main attractions are carved from solid stone, the Nandi Bull and a 2,000 year old Hindu temple. Other attractions are Sravanabelagola the impressive statue of Jain saint Gomateshwara, and Belur with its 11th-century Halebid temple carvings, Chenna Kesava temple and spectacular Jog Falls. The Sravanbelagola statue is anointed with thousands of pots of milk, bananas, curds, saffron and sandalwood every 12 years.
