The first missionaries arrived here 1,900 years ago. Formerly known as Madras is the fifth largest in India which is located in the cradle of Indian Christianity. The main attractions are the Basilica of San Thome where Christ's apostle St. Thomas, who's buried, is said to have preached, St. Thomas Mount, and the Church of St. Mary, the oldest Anglican church in India. Dont miss the Indian art at the Government Museum, which houses noted collections of ancient bronze and stone sculpture. Other attractions are the lighthouse, the central flower market, the grand British built Old Government House and the fine Marina Beach.
