Built by Nagainasa Kuroda Fukukoa castle was originally an inlet of Hakata Bay also called Kusangae. Fukuoka castle is thus more accurately known as Fukuoka castle Ruins, but it is still an important national treasure for the Japanese. The main part of the castle was burned down in a large fire in 1837 and the parts of the castle that remains from the original structures are the main gate and a castle tower. Only two parts remain, they give us glimpse of its former garandeur. Around the castle it is filled with cherry blossom and azalea trees and is a favorite recreation area.
